Thailand Visa Options (2025)
This information summarizes the three main options currently available for Australians (and most
other nationalities) looking to stay in Thailand in 2025: Tourist Visa, Visa-Exempt Entry, and the
new Digital Nomad Visa (Destination Thailand Visa - DTV).
- Tourist Visa (Pre-Arranged)
• Apply before travel via Thai embassy/consulate (or online e-visa).
• Grants an initial 60-day stay.
• Can be extended once for 30 days at a Thai immigration office.
• Maximum stay: 90 days total.
• Commonly used by Australians planning longer holidays or exploratory stays. - Visa-Exempt Entry
• Available for Australians and many other nationalities without applying in advance.
• As of 2025, entry allows 30 days (previously 60 days).
• Can be extended once for 30 days at immigration.
• Maximum stay: 60 days total.
• Best for shorter visits or spontaneous travel. - Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)
• Launched July 2024, designed for remote workers and freelancers.
• Valid up to 5 years, with multiple entries.
• Each entry allows 180 days, extendable by another 180 days (up to 360 days per stay).
• Requirement: income from outside Thailand + financial stability (at least THB 500,000 in liquid
assets).
• Application fee: approx. THB 10,000 per year.
• Must apply outside Thailand (online or at embassy/consulate).
